Safer Roads Fund Dear Resident/ Proprietor Safer Roads Fund – A684 Flood Warning System As part of the Safer Roads Fund Initiative North Yorkshire County Council will be implementing a scheme on the A684 between Bainbridge and Wensley to address the road safety issue that exists on this stretch of road as a result of frequent flooding from the River Ure.
The aim of this scheme is to reduce incidents resulting from the use of a road when flooded, by providing warning of the presence of flooding in real time. The system involves the installation of flood sensors in chambers below ground, these will be placed at strategic locations along the A684. These sensors will detect flooding on the road and will then turn on message signs which will indicate that the road is closed due to flooding. The installation works for the new signs and associated equipment is planned to commence from the 28th June 2021 and will take approximately 3 months to complete. During the installation work the A684 will be kept open to traffic at all times.
Please note that there may be occasions, where necessary for the safety or the work force and travelling public, when temporary traffic signals will be required. Traffic management is only expected to be required for short durations (up to 1 week) at each of the locations indicated on the attached plan. The works will be carried out between 0730hrs and 1730hrs. This may inevitably lead to some minor delays for vehicular travel, but our contractor will endeavour to reduce delay times during the working period. We request your assistance in the following ways: - Please contact the Customer Resolution Centre on 01609 780780 to identify any special access needs you may have during the work period; Cooperate and comply with any instructions issued by site staff and please take extra care whilst near the works area.
Please see attached a copy of the plan showing each of the locations that the detectors and signs are to be installed. Following installation, the equipment will be monitored, to ensure it is operating as intended and that the signs are activated when flooding poses a risk to safe passage of vehicles on the A684. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any disruption that these works may cause.
